A Tribute to Our Founder
Richard Cohn
Founder & Chairman Emeritus
For nearly four decades, Richard Cohn has been a defining force in the construction and development industry and the visionary founder of Cohn Corporation.
In 1993, Richard founded Cohn Construction with a simple but enduring goal: to build a company grounded in service, quality, and integrity. Under his leadership, the company grew in capabilities, reputation, and service offerings, establishing the foundation upon which Cohn Corporation continues to build today.
Recognizing the evolving needs of clients and the opportunities to help them grow, Richard expanded the organization by founding Cohn Development and Cohn Management. What began with a vision for serving clients more completely has grown into a portfolio of commercial and industrial properties throughout the United States.
Throughout his career, Richard has been much more than a business leader. As the patriarch of the Cohn family of companies, he has instilled a culture built on relationships, accountability, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to doing things the right way. His influence can be seen not only in the projects we build and the properties we manage, but in the people and values that define our organization.
Richard has also dedicated himself to serving the Midlands community and the state of South Carolina through extensive civic involvement. He has served as Chairman of the Planning Commission and as a member of the American Arbitration Association. In recognition of his contributions to the state, Richard received the Palmetto Patriot Award in 2011 and was inducted into the prestigious Order of the Palmetto in 2025.
In 2025, after more than 30 years of guiding Cohn Corporation and its affiliated companies, Richard transitioned to the role of Chairman Emeritus. While stepping away from his day-to-day leadership responsibilities, his legacy and influence remain deeply woven into the fabric of our organization.
Richard’s greatest accomplishment is not simply the company he founded, but the culture, relationships, and enduring values he leaves behind. His commitment to excellence and his belief in serving others continue to guide us as we look toward the future.
